The decision to run for the office of Representative of the 87th District was not an easy one for me to make. I spent many nights asking myself why I was even thinking about running for this office. In the end, I guess the real reason that I want to make this run is to really make a difference in people lives.

Since moving back after graduating from college, I have spent much of my time doing exactly that—working towards facilitating change and making a difference in the lives of those around me.

As I sat in my home town, I realized that there were real problems facing the town and its future. I stepped up and ran for City Council. When the solutions to the problems become overwhelming and I was not able to implement them while setting on the council, I stepped up and ran for Mayor. While occupying the office of Mayor, I realized that the county needed grow and develop a sense of community; people needed to know each other and work together towards revitalized our corner of the world and to take the opportunity to learn from one another as well. As this realization settled in, I stepped up and created a board that brought all of the mayors and supervisors in the county together to discuss the future of the county and learn from the endeavors of the others on the board.

The Board soon realized that we in Louisa County needed a serious economic boost, I collaborated with a number of people to ensure that our County got exactly that. Our group became a fiscal think tank in Louisa County and developed a strategy to bring that economic development to the area.
I have never been one to sit back and wait for problems to resolve themselves. I’ve always stepped up and taken the concerns of others seriously and worked with them towards achieving resolution.

As a District and as a State we need leaders in place who are not afraid to step up to the plate and face the issues and concerns head on. Leaders who will follow through with what they say they are going to do. Leaders who will take an active interest in changing, for the better, the lives of those they represent; moving them in the right direction!

The issues facing this District are real, VERY real, and demand satisfactory resolution without any further delay or game playing. Healthcare, employment, and education are just a few of the issues that are on the plates of our leaders. As those plates get fuller, I find myself ready to step up to the challenge of clearing those plates off for the people of the 87th district. I am ready to rise to the challenges facing our District and deal with each and every one of them. I have a proven track record of leadership and relationship building. My desire to work with all members of our community is genuine. I truly believe that we must all work together towards a set of common goals in order to achieve success. We will never move from good to GREAT without open dialog and cooperation at the community level.

As I begin my candidacy for the office of Representative of the 87th District, know that at the end of each day I ask myself, “Have I made a difference in someone’s life or helped get them started in the right direction?”
